I’ve been thinking a lot about the Ace Attorney anime recently. I know a LOT of people like to shit on it, and while I can theoretically see why (and it does definitely have problems), I don’t understand why some of its more interesting elements go entirely unnoticed. For example, the scene where Maya finally decides to trust Phoenix is PHENOMENAL and I want to talk about it.
Maya has made it very clear that there are two reasons she doesn’t want Phoenix to be her lawyer. 1: he literally won his first case like 2 days ago. He doesn’t have any experience. And 2: she doesn’t think Phoenix truly believes in her. Maya remembers how Phoenix looked at her like she was a murderer, and she doubts him because of it.
Phoenix never says outright if he did or didn’t think she killed Mia (I’m of the mind that he didn’t personally but I don’t think there’s evidence to prove either way) but Maya is the chief’s little sister, and he has to try and protect her now that she’s gone. He bikes around town in the pouring rain trying to find someone who will take her case. He doesn’t want to leave her alone when she’s at her lowest, because he knows how that feels
We go back to the visitor’s center. Phoenix is soaked, his hair is messed up, and he has petals he hasn’t bothered to remove all over him. But he has a massive list of defense attorneys that he’s narrowed down to two that will listen to Maya’s case. He shows her the drenched notebook with their names, and we see a frantic scribbled and crossed out mess of a list.
We then see a short shot of petals falling into a puddle. I didn’t get why they put this in at first. But then I remembered “oh yeah spring is like THE metaphor for change!” And it all made sense! It represents a few things. Maya’s changing mind (she realizes just how determined Phoenix is to help her and that he does believe in her now), hope after everything that happened (it’s a few small petals in a big puddle, which isn’t much but it’s a signal that things can get better), and new beginnings (the start of Phoenix and Maya’s blossoming friendship).
And then we’re back in the interrogation room. Phoenix has turned away from Maya so that he can continue looking for someone to help her. Maya has tears in her eyes as she’s realizing everything that Phoenix is doing for her. Maya approaches the glass, and Phoenix has a sudden change of mind and turns back towards her. And at the same time, Phoenix asks to defend her, and Maya asks him to defend him.
And then they both bonk their heads on the glass trying to thank the other
It’s SUCH a FANTASTIC scene! It’s a beautiful little moment between one of my favorite duos in all of fiction and I’m not going to lie I did tear up when I watched it for the first time

Posting this since I'm seeing a lot of posts asking how Aegon could even control his dragon without knowing High Valyrian.
Answer: A dragonrider doesn't need to know Valyrian to control their dragon. Targaryens using High Valyrian to command their dragon is mostly just...someone training their French bulldog with French commands to keep it "authentic."
In the book, there are many dragonriders who don't know a lick of Valyrian who can control their dragon no problem. Even the popularized "dracarys" seems to be a Dany invention and not necessarily an established command amongst all dragonriders:
"Your Grace. I am sorry to disturb your sleep." "I was not sleeping, ser. Come and watch." [...] "Drogon," Dany said softly, "dracarys." And she tossed the pork in the air. Drogon moved quicker than a striking cobra. Flame roared from his mouth, orange and scarlet and black, searing the meat before it began to fall. [...] "So I see. Dracarys?" All three dragons turned their heads at the sound of that word and Viserion let loose with a blast of pale gold flame that made Ser Jorah take a hasty step backward. Dany giggled. "Be careful with that word, ser, or they're like to singe your beard off. It means 'dragonfire' in High Valyrian. I wanted to choose a command that no one was like to utter by chance." - A Storm of Swords, Chapter 8

Psychic Frog's Horizon Hideaway
I have been waiting to write about the Psychic Frog's Horizon Hideaway addition to arena for some time but I wanted to have a clear understanding of the new system before I commented. I wanted to have a rough idea about the number of tickets you could possibly earn and the rewards that you can redeem should you acquire the near maximum number of potential tickets. First, I will note that when I first saw this on Magic Arena, I almost snap purchased it. I thought it was going to be a mastery pass that you had to choose to opt into. I was fine with that as I would not expect to get free rewards both from the thunder junction mastery pass and this new pseudo mastery pass. Magic Arena does want you to believe that Psychic Frog's Horizon Hideaway is a mastery pass and offers the same type of benefits as when you purchase the completed mastery pass near the end of the season. No one is actually buying the mastery pass for a set before completing it or if it is about to end, right? As a result, I chose to wait. I can still obtain tickets and I can wait until the end of July to make a decision. That should give me plenty of time to think about my purchase and make an informed decision without FOMO. I do appreciate that. WOTC could have made you purchase the psychic hideaway immediately by not allowing you to obtain tickets unless you handed over the gems first. It does seem less forced as I can see if the tickets I have earned are worth the trade. I also like that this is something completely extra. If you only play standard and do not want anything to do with Modern Horizons 3 then you are not forced to complete a summer mastery pass for a non-standard legal set. How many people liked slugging through the Baldur's Gate mastery pass which contained many cards that were only legal in alchemy formats? However, are the rewards in the hideaway worth the 2800 gems? That is a HUGE amount of gems to spend in one shot. Also, you select the rewards you want instead of just obtaining certain rewards at certain levels like with the mastery pass. There are a ton of aesthetic rewards but these cosmetics have no impact on gameplay. I already have a bunch of different avatars, card art styles, and sleeves. These useless cosmetics mean nothing to me and are worthless to me. I would not spend a single gem, ticket, or gold on a cosmetic item, but I do recognize that they are very popular. My friend said that the only item he wants from the hideaway is the ullamog avatar and I expressed disgust at spending so many gems for such a superficial reward but you know he is not alone in his thoughts and desires. How many people will fork over 2800 gems just for all the new bling? You know they will rerelease these aesthetics again down the line in alternate forms. So, is nothing worthwhile? Well, you can get a draft token typically valued at 1500 gems. OK. Now we are talking! Based on my low level math skills, you should be able to buy several draft tokens even if you do not maximize the number of tickets you get everyday. If you are able to get even two tokens then you profited off of the psychic frog! Unfortunately, the arena team saw through this. Most rewards are limited to a single purchase and you can only get one draft token. If you could purchase an unlimited number of draft tokens, I would have already purchased the hideaway, bought a couple draft tokens, and I would have been drafting MH3. Instead, I am waiting until the very last week to make up my mind. You can also get a maximum of 8 modern horizons 3 packs. You can also get 10 mythic rare rewards. I would first get the token, then the packs, then the mythic rare cards. I believe I will be able to easily purchase all of these items and still have tickets left over. Since these few items are the only items I consider actually worth currency then you must decide if these rewards are worth 2800 gems. I say that the 8 packs are worth approximately 1000 gems and the mythic rare rewards are about 300 gems. I have to decide if this is worth it for me. Is this purchase worth it to you?

Someday i really need to draw temeraire as a titan and BT as a temeraire series style dragon. Jack cooper and will lawrence even have the similarity of both being soldiers who change their military division sudden and unexpectedly who despite the unfamiliar situation bond strongly with their new partner. Hell jack becoming bt's pilot after his old one died reminded me of way the dragons who lost their their captains talked
